Barbara Ann Corcoran
Barbara Ann Corcoran was a speaker, investor, and businesswoman from the United American. The Corcoran Group, an NYC-based real estate brokerage, was founded by Corcoran. NRT bought it in 2001 for $66 million. Corcoran then exited the business. Corcoran was one of ABC's first Shark investors was a featured guest of every episode of Shark Tank. Corcoran has been involved in 53 deals as of February of 2020. The largest was a $350,000 investment that will cover 40% of Coverplay. Corcoran was born in Edgewater (New Jersey) as the second of ten children in a Catholic Irish working class family. Florence Corcoran's mother was an excellent homemaker. Edwin W. Corcoran Jr. Her father was constantly switching jobs throughout Corcoran’s life. Sometimes, her family relied upon free food delivery from a nearby grocery store. Corcoran remembers her father, a man who sometimes drank too much, and behaved towards her mother in a manner that was disrespectful and condescendingly, particularly after he'd consumed several drinks. Corcoran struggled with her education and was later diagnosed with dyslexia. Corcoran entered the high school system at St. Cecilia High School Englewood following her departure from her Catholic elementary school. Corcoran graduated from Leonia High School with a diploma in English, despite having failed several classes during her freshman years.
